By Quirico M. Gorpido,Jr.

Maasin City, Southern Leyte-A stray dog that suddenly crossed the street in brgy. Pugaling during the recent Tuesday at about 4:00p.m. has caused the untimely death of a teacher who backrode on a motorcycle driven by her husband that hit the dog and throwing her away as her husband applied a break.
The victim was identified as Lolita Ginnoo-Tamayo, 57 years old, a resident of brgy. Ibarra here in this small city. She was a principal of the Ibarra Elementary School for several years now. A small cross was erected on the scene of the accident.
In an interview with LSDE at her resident, daughter Junna Lyn Ginoo-Tamayo, 32 years old, a former Elementary School teacher, she disclosed that her mother and father were riding on a motorcycle towards the city proper.
She said her mother was dropped at the School Division Office, where the Tomas Oppus Pilot School was located somewhere in brgy. Mantahan.
Junna Lyn said her father, Alfredo N. Tamayo, 55 years old, a farmer, proceeded to the public market to buy something. In going home he dropped by at the School Division Office to fetch her mother as they have agreed earlier.
Upon reaching brgy, Pugaling, she said, a stray dog of regular size suddenly crossed the street. She said her father hit the dog that shrieked in great pain, instead of evading the animal.
He then applied a break, she said, throwing her mother from an abrupt stop and hitting her head on the concrete pavement.
She said her mother was rushed to the provincial hospital for emergency treatment. However, the doctor on duty after treating the victim’s head injuries advised them (members of the victim’s family) to bring her to Regional Medical Center in Tacloban City for further examination and treatment.
But on their way to Tacloban en route to Sogod town aboard an ambulance, she said, her mother succumbed to death upon reaching an area near the newly-finished Agas-Agas Bridge in brgy. Kahupian, Sogod, Southern Leyte.
The interviewee further said the victim’s remains was brought to her grandparents’ residence in brgy. Gawisan where a 5-day vigil was held. Thereafter her remains was transferred to St. Peters’ Funeral Homes in brgy. Pasay where a 3-day vigil was likewise held. She was finally interred and buried at the newly-constructed Assumption Gardens in brgy. Ichon, Macrohon. (Quirico M. Gorpido,Jr.)
